2016-2017 Season Auditions

Auditions for the Choirs of the Dayton Philharmonic will be held Tuesday, February 21 starting at 5:30 at WSU.  Interested singers should contact Amy Vaubel at 937-554-2986 or amy@vaubel.net to schedule a 10-minute audition.  More information and music to download is available at the links below.

Audition Instructions
Prepare the indicated music as described below. Click on the song title link to obtain the music. Prepare means to learn pitches, rhythms, text (verse 1 only) of the assigned parts.  Musical expression and phrasing are also important. You need Adobe Reader to read the music.  It’s free to download.

Sopranos: Prepare Soprano and Alto lines of Fairest Lord Jesus.
Altos: Prepare the Soprano and Alto lines of Be Thou My Vision.
Tenors: Prepare Soprano and Tenor lines of Fairest Lord Jesus. The Soprano (i.e. melody line), should be sung in the tenor range (i.e., one octave lower than notated).
Basses/Baritones: Prepare Soprano and Bass lines of Be Thou My Vision. The Soprano (i.e. melody line), should be sung in the bass/baritone range (i.e., one octave lower than notated).

Ensembles of The Choirs of the Dayton Philharmonic include:

A. The Choirs of the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra Chorus
1. Audition includes both vocal demonstration and reading skills
2. Sing major large-scale choral-orchestral works
3. 2 or more performances during regular subscription series

B. The Choirs of the Dayton Philharmonic Chamber Choir
1. Audition includes both vocal demonstration and reading skills
2. Sing chamber works
3. Commitment includes all subscription DPO/The Choirs of the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra Chorus choral concerts

C. The Choirs of the Dayton Philharmonic Festival Chorus
1. Audition includes vocal demonstration only
2. Open membership
3. Summer and occasional Pops Concert performances
